PSV Eindhoven has extended its" special "contract sponsorship deal with electronics giant Philips. The new contract will start on July 1 and will run until the 2015/16 season. The two companies can boast a nearly century-old bond. In fact, in 1913 to found a football club were actually employees of Philips. Hence the name Philips Sport Vereniging, which stands for Philips Sports Union.
The Philips brand has appeared on PSV in 1982 and is a combination that is unmatched in the Netherlands in terms of duration. No Dutch club has in fact the same sponsor for nearly three decades.
Philips also is title sponsor of the stadium where the home games PSV dispute, or the Philips Stadium.
Justin Sanders, general manager of PSV, said: "With the approaching anniversary of 100 years of PSV, we are very proud of our special relationship with Philips."
Terms of the agreement for the new contract were not disclosed, but in a statement posted on the club website, states that the terms and conditions of sponsorship do not change much compared the previous agreement signed in 2006.
Harry Hendriks, CEO Philips Electronics Benelux, said: "PSV and Philips with these additional five-year contract, can boast the longest partnership in the world. Moreover, we share fully the central issues, such as welfare and health of the community, on which cooperate with the club both the Netherlands and beyond its borders. "
Despite the close relationship that exists between the two companies in recent years several have been circulating rumors about a possible rupture of the association not renewing the agreement which expired in June 2011. But the waltz of chairs which involved the PSV at a senior level, has is that the partnership continues between the two companies. Giuseppe Berardi
